Family Reading

Literacy is a skill and a joy for life. Our Froebelian approach to Family Reading provides the setting for learning in a social and interactive environment and complements daily reading in individual classes.

The girls from KG Lower to J2 read together twice a week during Family Reading time. Each child will read to another child and they will also have an opportunity to read with a teacher. The younger girls may be reading from picture books, while the older students might read chapter books.

Family Reading develops literacy but it also fosters patience, a willingness to assist others and provides an opportunity for girls to work collaboratively within their Family Groups. Sometimes the students share stories which they have written or illustrated books which they have created and this showcases the pleasure of reading to all age groups and abilities.
