Write, shoot, direct, edit.
The Filmmaking Department is designed for TY students who work together in small groups to script, shoot and edit a short film.
This module aims to develop confidence and creativity in writing directing and producing a short film and students learn how to analyse and develop their ideas of characterisation, theme and plot.
The short films are entered into the National Fresh Film Festival competition and the students are then invited to a regional screening of their films in the IFI Temple Bar; selected films from the regional finals will go forward to the All Ireland Finals in Limerick.
The films are also screened at the Alexandra College Film Festival, which takes place in the school in May. The Lecture Theatre is transformed into a mini ‘Hollywood’ and students from all year groups are invited to attend the screenings over the two days of the festival. A panel of judges – students and teachers – attend the screenings each day and vote for their favourite film in a number of specified categories and Oscars are awarded at the conclusion of the Festival.
