From the Office

We would like to wish all our Muslim students and their families in the Junior School a very happy and rewarding Ramadan.

Bereavements

Please keep Rosie McAuliffe (J2W) in your prayers. Rosie’s grandfather, Samantha’s father, died in the US over the Easter break. Our thoughts and prayers also go to Róisín O’Callaghan’s family as Róisín’s grandmother, Frank’s mother, died in Scotland last week.

New Baby News

Congratulations to the Dunne family!  Coco (KGUpr) has a new baby sister, Brooke. The Kiersey family also welcomed a new baby - Penny (PS Upr) has a new baby sister.

From JACA

JACA Virtual auction

We were very excited to launch JACA’s first virtual auction earlier this week which will run until Thursday 29th April. This is our main 2021 fundraising event. We hope to raise funds to invest in two 3D printers, a numeracy programme and other educational resources for the Junior School.

We encourage you to check out our dedicated website www.auctria.events/JACA2021 where you can register to bid on one of 80+ items in our auction catalogue (or donate a € contribution) to help us reach our target. Please note that all bids are anonymous and credit card details are not required in order to place a bid.

You will find 8 different categories in our auction catalogue, the largest being Kids, followed by Interiors, Sports, Beauty, Food & Beverage, Fashion etc. Ms Smith has set up a very inviting display in the Junior School reception area which showcases the 3 hockey items signed by the Ireland Ladies Hockey team / Tokyo 2020 qualifiers. There are 3 paintings also displayed there. Similar work to the painting donated by renowned artist Abel Fernandez was featured in two interior magazines in Spain in March 2021.

Payment for auction items will be via the JACA bank account only. However, if you donate € you will need to enter your credit card details. Winning bidders will be notified and provided with item pick-up/delivery details by 30th April. All registered bidders will automatically be entered into a digital lucky draw for several spot prizes! Also, the first 6 bidders on each of the hockey items will win a hockey-related spot prize, sponsored by So Hockey.

We are extremely grateful to the 50+ companies who donated items to our auction and hope the Alex community of parents will support them in return. Huge appreciation goes to the many JACA reps, parents and Junior School staff who donated items to help us create a diverse auction catalogue. We hope you have fun browsing, bidding or donating on our website! www.auctria.events/JACA2021

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Best wishes ,

J6 – Moving out of Lockdown

This week the J6R's have been making the most of the new government guidelines allowing us to travel and explore within our own county. They created a Google Sideshow full of ideas of places to visit in Dublin. Whether you want to pack a picnic and head to the Phoenix Park, or you are taking part in a traditional treasure hunt, with a more modern twist, J6R have you covered!

Virtual Zoo Study – KGUpper

The KG Upper girls have been learning about the Zoo in their SESE and English lessons as well as in their Play Rota. We have learned about animal habitats and adaptations. A habitat is a place where an animal lives. Adaptations are special features that an animal has and uses in order to survive. There are 2 types of adaptations, physical and behavioural adaptations. A polar bear having thick fur is an example of a physical adaptation as it helps animals living in a snowy or cold habitat. Hibernation is an example of a behavioural habitat as animals choose to hibernate in the Winter months to keep warm and rest.

The KG Upper girls have had great fun creating and constructing habitats for the animals, creating animal masks, role playing scenarios in the zoo and building their own zoos. Well done girls!

Outdoor Art Class

It was a lovely sunny week to start our summer term, so we decided to take some art classes outdoors. J3R explored their drawing skills and watercolour techniques in the sun while J4R worked on their Mandala designs ahead of their printing class. While indoors, J5W started their canvas bag design looking at typography.
