Junior School News 22 January 2021
From Avril Lamplugh
With a second week of our virtual Junior School completed, I want to commend every girl in the Junior School for her engagement online. I had the opportunity this week to drop into the KG Lower, KG Upper, J1, J2R and J2W classes this week and it was lovely to see the girls and to join them for their morning class assembly.
Our Preschool re-opened this week for the children of essential/frontline workers. Thank you to our Preschool teachers for making this all work so smoothly as well as continuing with their Zoom classes for the preschool children at home.

Thank you!
This week, the J3 and J4 classes took part in a charity yoga class to raise funds for The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation. The class was run by yoga instructor Aisling O'Leary and the girls had a fantastic time taking part. They stretched and moved and balanced like true yogis! After the yoga lesson, the girls engaged in some meditation with Aisling during which she reminded them of the power of kindness - a philosophy we stand by in Alexandra College. In order to facilitate these yoga classes, families were asked to donate some money. We were blown away by the kind and generous donations of the families in Alex and are delighted to share that we raised a grand total of €1200! At a time when fundraising for the charity is more challenging than ever, this generous donation will go a long way towards enabling The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation to continue to carry out the amazing work they do with families nationwide.
A huge and heartfelt thank you too everyone who contributed to such a wonderful cause. Go raibh maith agaibh!
Ms. O’Brien
J6R - Our Goals for 2021
J6R worked on a New Year's project where they picked some specific goals for the year ahead. They then picked one word to motivate and lift their spirits when they need it, a word to sum up their efforts for the year.
‘I Have a Dream”
Inspired by the words and work of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Cayetana Kelly in J3W shared her own thoughts.
Preschool Uppers – Learning About Our World
The Preschool Upper girls completed a project on the seven continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica and Australia, over the last two weeks and enjoyed learning about the different animals that live on different continents. They watched interesting film clips and discussed famous buildings that people visit around the world. They loved learning about the continents and singing the continents song, colouring in the different continents and attaching pictures of animals and human and physical features which they proudly cut out themselves. Well done, Preschool Upper girls!

J6R Toilet Roll Workout!
Our PE classes are continuing online thanks to Ms. Tracey, Ms. Fox and Mairead Wales. On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, the J6R girls took on the Toilet Roll Challenge set up by one of our hockey coaches, Peter Caruth. Great fun!
