Around Europe with J3W!
This week we have researched and put together various group projects based on European countries.
The countries we researched included; Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Austria and Greece.
We discovered many interesting facts about the various countries including foods eaten, traditions and holidays celebrated, languages spoken, the population of the counties and much more.
Some of us have visited some of these countries already and we hope to visit the others someday!
Ms. Mc Mahon
Our J3/J4 students really enjoyed participating in the Hockey Blitz at St. Andrew’s last Monday. The girls got to play a number of matches and showed great team spirit throughout the afternoon. Well done, girls!
J5 Scientists at Work!
On Monday, both J5 classes enjoyed a fantastic science workshop facilitated by the Biomedical Sciences Department from NUIG. This workshop was part of work undertaken between Alex JS and CÚRAM. CÚRAM is the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Medical Devices.
The students learned about the circulatory system and what materials are currently being used in medical devices to help issues with the heart. They examined some examples of materials before working as biomedical engineers to "help heal a broken heart". The students worked in small groups to create a medical device to heal damage in a chamber of the heart. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learned a lot about medical device technology!
J5R – Future Engineers!
The J5R girls took part in a challenge to design their own parachutes in groups as a science experiment as part of Engineers Week.
World Book Day 2020
Everyone in the Junior School enjoys dressing up as their favourite book character for World Book Day. During assembly, some girls gave us a short presentation too on a book that they really enjoyed. Well done to Naya, Betty, Meriel, Aisling, Eva, Sophie, Emelie, Sara, Annabelle and Zoe for sharing your favourite books with us.
LLMD Results (J2-J6)
Congratulations to all the girls in J2-J6 who received excellent results from their recent Drama exams. They were all given their certificates in assembly this week. Fourteen girls from J5 and J6 also received medals for receiving a mark of 95 and above in their exam. Well done, girls! A special word of thanks the girls’ Drama teachers, Ms. Quinn and Ms. Crowley, for preparing the girls so well.
Congratulations to Alice Kent in J5W as she won the school Spelling Bee today. Fifty one girls from J5 and J6 took part and, after five rounds, Alice was the winner by spelling the word "indigenous" correctly. Well done to all the girls who took part - it was tough competition. Alice will go on now to represent the school in the Dublin County Final on March 19th. We all wish her all the very best in the next stage of the competition.
