Well done to everyone involved!
Preschool Lower
This month the Preschool Lowers have been very busy turning the little log cabin into a magical world of festive cheer. The girls have been rushed off their feet in Santa's wrapping and sorting centre, creating Christmas crafts and enjoying our very own stick man sensory story tray. Our cheeky Elf Ben has been causing all sorts of mischief making snow angels in the reindeer food. Ms Breen made our class an Advent kindness calendar with wonderful comments about all of the girls in the class to share each day.
J2W Updates
Character Strengths Student-Led Assembly
J2W have been following the Weaving Well-Being programme to learn about the character strengths that can help us to feel good and strong in our minds and bodies. We shared the work created on these character strengths in our student-led assembly.
3-D Models
We have been investigating maps and their key features,as well as looking at plans and 3-models of different houses around the world. To help us fully understand our learning, we decided to create models of the stories we have been writing in English. We have enjoyed the challenges that this task presented to us!
Christmas Postbox
In keeping with the annual postbox tradition, J2W students each planned and presented their ideas for our postbox theme. I'm sure you'll agree the end result shows what great teamwork can achieve.
J3R Update
It is the most wonderful and busy time of the year for J3R! During the last few weeks, we have been learning about money and telling the time as well as building up our knowledge of the times tables. The girls are really enjoying reading the novel ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ together, and completing writing activities based on it.
The girls did a fabulous job with their Christmas performance, it was great to see them all shine! The girls are now preparing for festivities by designing our Christmas postbox, doing some festive artwork and writing some festive stories!
J3W News
November was a busy and exciting month in J3W. Half of the class led our student-led assembly, where they confidently presented their research and findings on space to the whole school. Their hard work, preparation, and teamwork truly shone out during their assembly. As a reward for their fantastic effort and positive behaviour, the girls enjoyed a joyful Teddy Bear Picnic. It was a lovely way for the class to unwind and celebrate their achievements together.
In December, the girls performed wonderfully in their Christmas show alongside the J2s and J4s. They brought great energy and enthusiasm to the stage, and it was a fantastic way to round off the term.
J4R Update
Creativity at its Finest in J4R
The J4R girls were learning about persuasive writing in class and tried their hand at creating their own pieces. Let’s see if you can be persuaded!
Biscuit Decorating in J4R
The J4R class finished off the term with some Christmas cookie decorating- melting snowmen, reindeer and lots of other interesting creations!
J4W Book Tasting
This month in J4W, the girls completed an animation which they had begun with Ms. McGarry as a simple comic strip. With lots of tweaks and several redrafts, the girls created short stories with animations. Then one afternoon, the class were given the opportunity to read each other's stories in a Book Tasting event. The girls opened each of the stories via the Book Creator app and could leave each other positive feedback after they had enjoyed their animations. Jellies and popcorn just made the afternoon even more enjoyable!
Sports Update
Our classes had a busy couple of weeks with various activities and an away fixture getting us into action mode! We had a visiting basketball coach called Ciarán who gave his masterclass in the mini-skills of basketball to our younger students, demonstrating fun ways of moving around the court and spinning the ball on your finger!
Our mini-hockey teams are immersed in their league sectional matches. We had fun competitive games and we’re still in the mix as we approach the mid-way point in the leagues. We have more friendly matches for the younger teams following the Christmas break. We have played Mount Anville, Taney and Loreto Beaufort so far. On Thursday last, our B Team had success in a thrilling match with Loreto Beaufort popping in 3 goals in what was a fast, end to end match. The following day, in absolutely awful rain-sodden conditions, our gallant A Team were not so lucky, yet they skilfully played their way on the same pitch our B’s had been on the previous day, only to go down to a Loreto team in a goal scoring mood! Well played to both teams and let’s look forward to even more exciting games after the Christmas break!
The Christmas Cracker Challenge is on at the moment for all classes and jingles (points collected from each challenge!) are constantly being awarded and scores updated and changing with each task. We are not sure at the moment which team will emerge with the most jingles accumulated!
Well done to all our classes in PE this year. We hope you all enjoyed learning and adapting new skills in a variety of sporting activities and above all this, having fun playing and being part of a team and maybe loving sports even more than before!
Wishing you all a great sporting Christmastime.
Rockjam Christmas Video Project
Our after-school Rockjam at Alexandra College Junior School has been filled with energy and creativity this term as our four groups — Tuesday at 3pm and 4pm and Thursday at 3pm and 4pm — completed their annual Christmas music video project.
Over the past six weeks, the girls have taken on every aspect of the music-making process. They selected their instruments, learned and rehearsed their individual parts and collaborated to plan the structure and style of their videos. This year’s song choices brought plenty of festive spirit, including Snowman by Sia, Christmas Tree Farm by Taylor Swift, Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson and Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande.
This week, excitement was high as each group recorded their Christmas music video. The girls arrived in full festive style, wearing Christmas jumpers, accessories and even some costumes borrowed from the school’s Christmas shows. Their enthusiasm and teamwork shone through in every performance.
The videos are now being edited by Mr. Rycraft and each group will enjoy a special screening during their Christmas parties next week. Parents will also have access to the finished videos via private links on the school’s Vimeo account. These links will be shared with families by email next week. As always, our aim is giving students a fun and engaging space to explore music, performance, and collaboration. We look forward to sharing the completed videos soon.
