House Highlight - Kyle
This month’s House Highlight is Kyle - Floor 2B - named after Olympic athlete, hockey player, Officer of the British Empire, and Alex alumna Maeve Kyle, born in 1928 in County Kilkenny. She competed in the Olympics in Melbourne, Rome, and Tokyo, won bronze at the 1966 European Indoor Athletic Championship in Dortmund, and won four gold medals at the World Masters Championship in Gothenburg. In hockey, Kyle represented three of the four Irish provinces at different points of her career, and was one of the first ten players to join the Hall of Fame of Irish hockey. In 2006, she was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Ulster as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Coaching Awards in London. Our prefects for House Kyle are Fatima and Sophia-Lara.

Knitting and Crochet Club
We are delighted to introduce the Crocheting and Knitting Club in Res!
The club took place for the first time on Thursday the 21st of November and provides an opportunity for boarders who are interested to practise their passion, and relax. It’s a great time for the girls to spend away from all distractions and stress to create beautiful pieces that represent their diverse personalities and to express themselves. We are thrilled to be making wonderful memories during our Thursday crocheting and knitting club evenings that add warmth to our boarding house. We can’t wait to see you there!
Jewellery Making in Res
This week the girls enjoyed a very pleasant evening in Res putting their creative talents to use making beaded bracelets. They had great fun whiling away the time chatting, beading and bonding. It was a nice break from the pressures of school and all the girls want to do it again soon.

November's Res Trips
Dublinia and Christ Church Cathedral
Our first weekend trip this month was Dublinia and the Christ Church Cathedral. The girls learned about Dublin in the Viking and Mediaeval times, trying on viking clothes and playing mediaeval games. They then visited the Christ Church Cathedral, an old Viking church which people have been visiting for over a thousand years. The Cathedral offers spiritual retreats, a labyrinth, and educational tours.
Newbridge Silverware Museum and Whitewater Shopping Centre
The girls were given the chance to do some shopping this month when they went to visit Whitewater Shopping Centre in Kildare. They then visited the Newbridge Silverware Museum, which has a rich history of the Newbridge Silverware company and its heritage. The museum includes a separate section on style icons including Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, and The Beatles, which the girls enjoyed seeing.
Wonderlights
Like every year, the girls went to the magical Wonderlights experience in Malahide Castle. They all got to see the beautiful light show and take a tour of the castle grounds, decorated beautifully with intricate displays. As always, it was an enchanting experience that the girls all enjoyed. Before going back to Res, the girls were given the chance to look around the Wonderlights Alpine Village, where they could treat themselves to hot food or a winter warmer.
