Res Round-Up September 2026
News from The Hermione
1st Years settling into Res
Our new 1st Years received a warm welcome as they arrived and began settling into boarding life. Each girl was greeted with a little goodie bag before enjoying plenty of time to bond and get to know one another. Their first few days included a walk along the River Dodder, some fun in the playground, a trip to Dundrum Shopping Centre and, most importantly, time simply sitting, chatting and making new friends. A lovely start to their boarding journey!
Origami Evening
Our JS students and 1st Years enjoyed a relaxing and creative evening learning the Japanese art of origami. With just a few folds of paper, the girls created some wonderful designs while learning about this traditional Japanese craft. It was a lovely evening of fun and creativity. Special thanks to Ms Semenova and TY student, Yune M (4J).
August Birthday Cake
Each month in Res, we celebrate all the girls who have a birthday that month with a special birthday cake to share. This month’s treat was a fabulous Oreo cake, which went down very well with everyone. A big thank you to our Canteen team for arranging this lovely monthly treat for the girls.
September Trips
Our Saturday trips are a wonderful part of life in Res, offering the girls a great mixture of fun, culture and education. With three fantastic trips already enjoyed this term, the girls have had the opportunity to explore, learn and make memories together. And there is plenty more to come!
Viking Splash
For our first trip of the year, the girls had a fantastic time exploring Dublin aboard the Viking Splash tour. From roaring through the city’s historic streets to splashing into Dublin Bay, the trip was filled with laughter, fun and fascinating facts. It was a memorable adventure and a wonderfully entertaining way to discover Ireland’s capital city.
Avondale Treetops
The following weekend, the girls enjoyed a fantastic day out at Avondale Treetop Walk, exploring the beautiful woodland from high above the forest floor. The spectacular treetop walkway offered stunning views across the Wicklow countryside, with plenty of fun and laughter along the way. A wonderful day spent outdoors enjoying the fresh air and nature.
Kilmainham Gaol
Our most recent trip was to Kilmainham Gaol, one of Ireland’s most important historic sites. The girls learned about its role in Ireland’s struggle for independence, from the 1798 Rebellion to the Easter Rising and Civil War. They particularly enjoyed hearing the stories of the key figures imprisoned within its walls and found the visit both interesting and memorable.
